Sheku Kanneh-Mason has risen from a young talented cellist turning heads at the BBC Proms and 2018 royal wedding to a must-see artist performing the world over. In a recent concert at the Hollywood Bowl, the Los Angeles Times said, “His playing is big and bold. He digs deeply for the cello’s deepest, most poignant character.” Mason joins forces again with the LA Phil for one of his specialties: Shostakovich’s ever-shifting and haunting First Concerto. Dudamel leads the LA Phil in Villa-Lobos' Uirapuru—subtitled “O passarinho encantado” (The Enchanted Little Bird)–which was inspired by a bird in the composer’s homeland of Brazil with the ability to create a stunning variety of songs. A magical avian of a different feather next takes flight with Stravinsky’s suite from The Firebird.
